The text would have benefitted from an improved German to English language copyedit of the translation without losing any valuable ideas, concepts, or recommendations. The choice of scientific terminology is at times inappropriate with Unfortunately, the translation to English is lacking in places, making reading somewhat awkward. On page 91, the authors make a statement that refers to the lack of available literature for lithium disilicate hybrid abutments and crowns however, the authors should search the most recent literature that assesses lithium disilicate crowns and abutments in regards to periimplant esthetics and the influence of periimplant bone (Mehl et al. Other statements made throughout the text would benefit from updated references. One example, “(lithium disilicate) should be preferred to the lower strength of glass-ceramic” stated on page 41. Better would be to support statements with the appropriate literature after they are mentioned in the text so that the reader can reference them if necessary. For every chapter, a reference list is situated in column form however, a recommendation would be to reference factual statements immediately in the text rather than having a reference list in the beginning or end of a chapter. The text has a comprehensive updated reference list (to 2016) that is available as one of the last chapters in the book. Once they understand the principles and fundamentals behind ceramic materials, this text would be most applicable. Readers must have a foundation in terms of ceramic restorations, their mechanical behavior, applications, indications and limitations therefore, a dental student, a recent graduate with limited experience should select a text that is more basic. Prosthodontists, prosthodontic residents, dental practitioners who have a practice limited to “cosmetic dentistry,” master dental ceramists, and in-house dental technicians would best benefit from the valuable information provided in this text.
